School & anxiety

School is tough, especially when you have crippling social anxiety and barely any friends, you know that feeling when you miss a step on the stairs, and your heart feels as if it's in your throat and you can feel it banging in your chest, well, imagine that all the time, I'm crowds, presenting things, or even simply talking to someone new, can be a big deal for someone with anxiety.

Anxiety is so misunderstood as something small, when in reality it is a serious mental disorder, it effects and changes your life completely, and it isn't as uncommon as people think,
One in five people feel anxious all of the time or a lot of the time,  there are people too afraid to give they're opinion for the fear of being laughed upon or hearing laughter near you and instantly think it's about you and when all these small things add up, it becomes a big problem for you and everyone around you.

Ways to cope with anxiety

  • Find time to relax everyday

And no I don't mean watching TV or just on your phone on the sofa, really relax, take a bath do some yoga, something where you're only focus is on you.

  • Talk to someone about things that are bothering you
Even If it's just hanging out or going for a walk, just talking about this, will make you feel a little better about it.

  • Get creative or active

Do something fun, go for a run, paint, draw, swim! Do something to take your mind off of everything and enjoy!

  • Get enough sleep!
Turn that phone off, turn that TV off, and go to bed for a well deserved sleep, you should be getting at least 8 hours! I promise you'll wake up feeling better!

  • Eat well and plenty!
Our diet can effect us in more ways than physical, if you eat healthier you will feel a lot healthier,
it's okay to have a bit of indulgence here and there, don't take it too seriously, just maybe sometimes get water instead of the sugar filled soda, that could heighten your anxiety:)

  • And most importantly, think and act positively!
This may be the hardest thing to do, but maybe try writing a list of five things you are grateful for or what you like about yourself everyday, this could change your whole day, and remember smile, because there is so much to be happy about:)
